What are your favorite Anime/Manga/Animanga, and why?

I choose Rouroni Kenshin as the best. It is very serious and dark and definitely targeted to an older audience than most animated stuff. It also has some real historical background behind it.

I also like Ghost in the Shell. Also serious, philosophical and mature.

It definitely has found its target audience of kids and teenagers.

Used to be Anime was for adults in Japan, so I like the older stuff.

You can see a progression (regression???) when you look at stuff like Robotech (which is basically an animated soap opera) then it changed to things like Rurouni Kenshin and Inuyasha (which still has alot of dramatic elements, but also kids humor) and now to Naruto and Avatar with child heros and mainly kids humor.

You can see the same thing from Yugioh to GX. Went from a more serious heroic theme to a more casual slacker of a "hero" who just muddles along without taking anything too seriously and gets lucky alot.
