Runes are put on your armor to give extra attributes or health or energy. Runes that give +2 or +3 to an attribute also cost health so you have to be careful.
Insignias are put on your armor to add energy or health or additional armor.
You can also put them on hero armor to make your heroes stronger.
Green weapons always have max stats (except for a few starter area bosses drop starter green weapons). Many green items have poor mod combos though. Gold weapons generally are max or almost max. You can get collection or crafted max weapon and salvage max mods to make a statistically equal item to any green or gold item.
The weapons your heroes are given when you get them are not max so improving their weapons makes them more effective, just like improving their armor with runes and insignias.

simple enough to read what the runes say.
question seems confusing enough as is about rune
example of placing runes for a warrior, necromancer?
and what attributes most a mesmer hero with or with a 2nd profession?
thanks for your input dave.
1. i don't think i asked the correct way about how runes can benefit ones armor.
2. it is tough to figure runes out even for myself and without funds not much i can do lol

The most important thing for heroes is to put a rune for their primary attribute on their head armor. The head armor will then add an additional plus.
You can not use runes for secondary professions so you only worry about primary.
The placement really doesnt matter unless you change builds alot. Then you want runes that you will swap out on the helmet, gloves and boots so you can cheaply buy extra boots and gloves to hold different runes.
I generally put vigor runes (extra health) on pants or chest since you almost never want to change it out. Then weapon runes on the helmet since that usually matches the weapon anyway.
For example on a Ranger: you normally have a bow mastery +1 mask with a bow mastery +3 rune on it to get 15 in bow mastery to do max damage with it. But if you were trapping, you would take that mask off and put a widlerness survival +1 mask with a wilderness survival +3 rune to make that higher, and you would also want maybe a +3 expertise rune on spare boots for trapping since health is not as important as reducing the energy consumption on your traps. You probably dont want boots with a +3 expertise rune when you are vanquishing because you need the health more than energy so you have a pair of boots with a +1 expertise rune for that.
