LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar) is an MMORPG based on the JRR Tolkien lord of the rings series. The players are elves, humans, dwarves or hobbits involved in tharting the Witch King of Angmar's attempts to conquer the Eriador region during the time that Frodo is taking the ring from the Shire to Mount Doom. You meet Strider at the Prancing Pony, then dont hear from him for quite a while...

You can go to www.lotro.com and get a free 7 day trial to check it out. The game is sold at retail store and online from $15-30 dollars and then you pay $10-$15 monthly subscription fee which has so far included all content updates free. I dont generally like to pay so much, but this one has the best features of WoW and GuildWars combined into one very well done and well supported game. With DX10 the graphics are supposed to be phenominal.

It is a quest based game (you get most of your experience from completing quests, not killing monsters.) The level cap is 50. It includes a rich crafting system that allows you to craft all of you own gear, if the quest reward gear isnt what you want. It also includes an excellent Auction Hall (no stalls wasting server CPU) and a mail system to send items and money back and forth.
