Comics212 posted a mockup of the first issue's cover and more details. The end of Newtype USA was first made public on January 9, and the first details of PiQ magazine were released on the following day.

Honestly i dont know if Im going to like this mag at all. When I first got into anime I was reading a mag called animerica.http://www.emerchandise.com/images/p/VBR/pdMGVBR0032.jpg It was a fantastic anime mag. When Newtypehttp://www.orangesdesigns.com/images/site/portfolio/print-newtype_cover.jpg launched animerica had no chance so they stopped monthly issues and started to print quarter issues. Now with PIQ as the new mag for ad vision I dont see it as a big hit like those other mags where. In time we will see and I will continue to subscribe to this new mag but it better blow me away when it comes to info and stuff.

Editorial Director Gary Steinman Leaves ADV's PiQ Mag

PiQ still on track for March; Steinman led PiQ's predecessor, Newtype USA

Gary Steinman, the publisher and editorial director of A.D. Vision's upcoming PiQ Magazine, has notified people via email that he is leaving the company today. Steinman has been working on the launch of this magazine about "anime, manga, video games, comics, movies, TV" and other topics, and the launch is officially still on track for March. He also led PiQ's predecessor, Newtype USA, as its editor-in-chief until its last issue this past month. A.D. Vision has not yet announced the new head of PiQ Magazine.

Update: Steinman has sent ANN the following message:

Just to clarify, I am leaving for personal reasons. I had planned to return to the Bay Area for quite a while now. Although I'm not from San Francisco, I lived there for a few years and always wanted to return. It's where I plan to raise my family and live for years to come.
I didn't want to announce my departure sooner because I didn't want anything to get in the way of PiQ's launch. We just got the proofs in today for the first issue, and it looks fantastic! I am proud of what this team accomplished, and I'm sure the readers will enjoy it a great deal.

The team remains intact, and the company is actively searching for a replacement. Meanwhile, Kevin Gifford remains the Executive Editor and he will certainly do a superb job continuing PiQ. The rest of the team is likewise eager to continue providing the best coverage of anime and manga, alongside other areas of relevant entertainment.

The first issue of PiQ hits newsstands in mid-March. Look for great feature coverage and reviews of titles including Code Geass, xxxHOLiC, Tweeny Witches, Aquarion and much more! We also have a 16-page preview of the upcoming Crayon Shin-chan manga from CMX. Very cool.
