Do you think English Dub anime is really that bad?
Subbed or Dubbed that is the question.

Personally I have to say people talk to much smack about dubbed anime. The subtitles are almost the same as they say it in english. In my opinion I think they have plenty of good anime out there and the voice acting has gotten much better over the years. So why do so many people bash the dubbed anime. Like to hear ur replies on this the good and the bad.

To me its a preference thing. I have watched many dubbed animations over the years [ Dragonball Z anyone ? ]and I have nothing against dubbed animies but, I like to feel the true original essence of an animation to the likes of the original intent of the creator, so since I cant fully read Japanese yet, subbed will have to do as I still get the full essence of the anime all while reading it in English :) its a sweet bitter rush

i dont mind the kids dub anime but i hate when they dub anime with alot of action,
bad thing with some anime dubs are they have 60 year old men doing a voice of a kid and the kid sounds like an old man, ok u can say 60 year old men do the voice in the sub u may be right but they sound like kids in it.

i for 1 will watch sub and if i cant find a sub and can only find a dub
il watch one with no sub before i watch a dub,

subs rules dubs sux

it depends on the show, i love many dubbed anime. it's only when they cut out a lot of the content is when i prefer subbed.... or whenever i can't find it dubbed like 5Ds

Same here Sena. I just finished watching Black Lagoon dubbed and Ill tell u it was 1 of the most impressive dubs I have ever seen in recent memory. The show itself rocks but to put a dubbing cast like that together was even better.
Brad SWAILE as Rock who also did Light Yagami in Deathnote
Maryke HENDRIKSE as Revy who also did Tabby in Hack//Roots
Brian DRUMMOND as Benny who also did Ryuk in Deathnote also Vegeta in DBZ and Allen in Escaflowne just to name a few.

REVY IS THE BEST ANIME CHICK I HAVE EVER SEEN!

well my answer is round about the same as sena's

depends on the show

however it is slightly different because i like subs because generally u can get further in the show nd it seems more dramatic to me with the example of yugioh gx in this case and the subs aren't made to show to young children, my example again being yugioh GX because of in the subs they die but in dubbed they get 'sent to the stars' which is quite corny for me...the japanese voices also sound a bit wrong having watched the dubbed episodes of yugioh i'm used to the over dramaticness of yugi and the darkness of bakura but i don't get that same impression wen i watched a random subbed episode of it 1 day

as for dubbed i think u get a better idea of the mood than subs unless 4Kids r dubbing it in which case u'll have to stick with the music of jaden making his move which in my opinion takes away all the tension that was built up in the move of his opponent which isn't a good thing...but i generally like having not to pause nd rewind because i missed a few words on the end of a sub

after weighing up these 2 sides i am landed wiv an impossible decision but i think i can just say that it depends on wat show it is

lol all that nd i haven't answered the closed question wiv a yes or no answer :P

Yeah definately guys it all depends on show itself. Like for example Uncut naruto dub is great minus naruto's voice, Bleach is also a killer at the dub, inuyasha i could go on and on. 4 Kids on the other hack the crap out of the show itself. Like u said big willi they get sent to the stars and they dont die, or another example beacuse they did OnePiece they raped that show to the bone taking everything out that meant something to someone. All on all not all dubbed anime is great as we have all seen but in the end we can tolerate it. In any case I like both depending on what show it is.

you just have to look at what it's meant for when it's being translated and dubbed. when it's being dubbed for kids somethings are going to be dumbed down. the subbed is always there. i guess you have to take the dubbed for what it is and not compare it to the original....... if that makes any sense at all
