I recently got a PS3 and am playing Call of Duty 4 online. I have a nat 3 on my internet connection. For best gaming you need a nat 1 or 2. I have read a lot on this problem and tried everything to change it. Nothing works. If you know much about this fill me in on someway to fix this. Thanks.

See if this works for u

Your going to have to be more specific. Have you connected to a network, and can access the internat browser but not play online? Or do you have no idea how to hook up the connection or are having connection problems? Do you have a wired or wireless network? Do you have a router?

I'll try to go step by step as far as i know:
first off, you have to have broadband...no dial-up
if your router/modem/computer/internet connection is close to your tv then you can and should use a wired connection. Most will use a wireless connection, although wired is better if you can use it.
if your using wired, hook the cable into your internet connection (router/modem/computer) and the other side into the eternet slot on your ps3. Turn on the ps3 and go to settings/network settings/internet connection settings. Then select wired. secect Automatic, then connect. After a while, it will tell you if the connection passed or failed. Repeat if it failed and if your using a router check to see what type of security you have as the router is probably blocking the network.

If your using a wireless connection, everything is much harder as the ps3 seems to have some problems with this. There are several Forums and uTube videos with step by step instructions and i suggest you use those. The basics are; got to settings, network settings/internet connection settings, then hit wireless, enter your router password and let it connect automatically. If the connection fails, then use the forums or call a friend who knows enough to set it up manually. With wireless there can be problems with the ps3 settings and the router, so it can be hard to diagnose the problem. Go into the internet browser to make sure the connection is good.

If you have a connection but have trouble gaming online, there could be one of two reasons: 1) the servers for the games/PSN are overloaded, or 2) you are at NAT setting 3 or above or NAT failed. To help diagnose the problem, go to settings/network settings/test internet connection. Test the connction and you will get information on a bunch of things. First, check that the connection is there and not failed. then, scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and it will say NAT someting. If its NAT 1 or 2 then your good. If its NAT 3 or above or failed then your router is blocking some ports that the PS3 is using. This hinders online play and accessories like headsets. The best way to solve this problem is to DMZ the router (open all ports). It is usually just a checking a box in the router so check your routers manual. The NAT situation is a problem for many playstaion3 users and there are tons of resources and stepbystep instructions on the net. just google ps3 NAT3.

online can also sometimes be hindered if the media server connection is on. If you are not using it, go to settings/network settings/media server/off. Also make sure you have the latest update or it wont allow you online (or in some cases to play the game). If you have a game, stick the disk in and you will get a update, though it may not be the latest. But if you update this way then do this before stting up a wireless connection as the update adds more features, such as newer security protocals.

I do have a network connection, and am currently playing the game online. I have everything figured out except getting a NAT2. I have a wired connection though my router, media connection off and still at NAT3. I hooked my ps3 straight up not using a router and still got NAT3. Tried every way I have read everywhere about. The only thing left that I could think of would be my ISP. Do you or anyone have any other suggestions. They will greatly be appreciated. Thank you

Found this so try this out.

Wired or Wireless? wired: dmz in your modemwitht he ip of the modem set in there, then a dmz in the router using the ps3 ip. that should fix it for both wired and wireless. also reset modem and router completely before doing this. then

when thats done, forward these ports in your modem and router: udp3658 and UDP6000. Myself and my roommate both have ps3(yes 2 in one house, omgawd I know) and with this setup we both get NAT2. Enjoy.

I do not have a modem, should i just forward those ports into my router with the ones i already have?

I dont know if its going to work with th router. U could always try if u want to and c what happens. If that doesnt work I would call Techinal services and tell them ur problem and they might me able to help u out.
