Manga publishers offering opportunities in Japanese popular culture industry
America's two largest manga publishers, Tokyopop and Viz Media, are looking to hire for a pair of entry-level positions that require minimal experience.

Los Angeles-based Tokyopop is advertising for a general office assistant who would handle receptionist, call routing, shipping, and events management duties. The help-wanted ad for the position calls for one to two years of general work experience and excellent clerical and communication skills. Tokyopop is also searching for a sales and marketing vice-president, a manager of financial planning and analysis, a layout artist, and a programmer experienced in Linux, Apache, BSD, and mySQL.

Viz, located in San Francisco, has an opening for a digital and art assets coordinator who is familiar with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat and is able to speak, read, and write Japanese fluently. Familiarity with popular entertainment and consumer media is a minimum requirement.
